New improvement to the tax credit for home-support services for seniors
On June 5, 2008, the Ministère des Finances du Québec announced an improvement to the tax credit for home-support services for seniors.
The supply of a single meal per day that is included in the rent of a person living in a senior citizens’ residence is now recognized as an eligible expense for the purposes of the tax credit. Where the service is offered, the appropriate box must be checked on the Schedule to the Lease. Previously, two or three meals per day had to be offered for the expense to be eligible for the purposes of the tax credit.
Application for advance payments of the tax credit
Individuals whose rent includes the supply of a single meal per day and who have already submitted the application for advance payments or the update of their information could not indicate on it that one meal per day was offered. There is no need for these individuals to contact Revenu Québec to rectify the situation. Using the Schedule to the Lease, Revenu Québec will verify the information in all the forms received and will calculate the amount of the tax credit to be granted.
